A Decade of Design Excellence: Meet Our Architect Gina Vozka
At TreHus, we take pride in showcasing our talented team members. This edition spotlights Gina Vozka, an AIA Architect + ASID Interior Designer who has been with TreHus for 10 years.
Gina first became interested in architecture in high school, inspired by her grandfather’s art, writing, and architecture work in Utah. “I liked the idea of being able to do something creative that I could also make a living off of,” says Gina. After graduating from the University of Illinois and spending the beginning of her career in Alaska, Gina returned to Minnesota and joined TreHus in 2015, drawn to its client-centric process and “emphasis on bringing beauty to a project.”
Tile in Design
As a skilled architect, Gina understands that all great architecture is a product of time spent developing a relationship with the client. Listening to her clients and learning what makes them feel wary or excited about the remodeling process allows Gina to “create an interesting and unexpected design element that is unique to each client,” like bold, contrasting tile elements in Hopkins Bold Kitchen or textured, sea glass-inspired tile in Summit Hill Craftsman.
When choosing tile for a project, Gina has her clients at the front of her mind; “I like to use tile to bring texture or pattern into a space. I usually have an idea of color, but sometimes I have a feeling that a client will respond to one over another.” Gina said she sees “large pattern mosaic mural tile becoming more attractive to clients, like this grey and pink floral from a recent project.”
Featured Project
One of the projects Gina is most proud of is Walnut in White Bear. Gina attributes her ability to create such a delightful space to having “an amazing client who isn’t afraid of bold design, and has fabulous taste!” Working with a repeat client— Gina formerly designed this home’s White Bear Modern kitchen— allowed for a seamless collaboration with the homeowner, who was on board with using “subtly tactile materials” to create a stunning sensory experience throughout the home.
Life Outside of Architecture
Gina is an avid knitter, former Alaskan, and current outdoors enthusiast; she just finished a Fair Isle knitted wrap and can’t wait to get on the lake and in her garden this summer! One fun fact about Gina is that her family supports an art student at the University of Utah with a scholarship in honor of her grandfather.
