Classic Arabesque Kitchen

  • <p>This home is located in the historic district St. Paul on Summit Avenue.  The focus of this project was to improve the flow and circulation of the kitchen. Circulation through the existing kitchen was more winding and circuitous than desired.</p>
  • <p>The back stair was widened to create better access to the powder room and kitchen. Since the home was located within the historic district changes to the exterior are controlled and existing window openings were maintained.</p>
  • <p>The kitchen was made bigger by expanding a bit into the dining room which gave way to better clearances between countertops and formatting a better working triangle.</p>
  • <p>Materials such as soft touched of brushed brass intermingled with other brass touches in the home the tile and custom cutouts between the breakfast nook and rear stairs mimicked other arabesque shaped details throughout the home.  Light airy colors also helped open and brighten up the space.</p>

  • <p>The Powder room was particularly small and housed a large radiator that carried much of the heating load for that end of the house.  Improving the size of the powder was solved by recessing the radiator into a wall and finding more appropriately sized fixtures for the petite space.</p>
