  • <p>The owners of this extraordinary 1906 home have spent years restoring it to its former beauty. It was important to them to make the new kitchen historically sensitive and to blend with the high-end finishes of the rest of the home, but also to meet their needs as a food-loving modern family (with no servants, like there would have been in the early days of this home). The TreHus team met the clients’ needs by incorporating design themes found throughout the home. Authentic materials like quartersawn oak, granite, marble, soapstone, and stained glass add to the historic aura of the space. The result is a unique and beautiful kitchen than fits seamlessly with the grand old home.</p>
  • <p>This shot shows some of the thought and detail that went into the kitchen. A custom hood gives a curvy elegance to the space, while the carrera marble backsplash and soapstone countertops add a rich texture. The cabinet front fridge (right) blends seamlessly with the cabinetry, and the stained/leaded glass windows add a pop of color and tie the space in with the originals in the buffet in the dining room.</p>
  • <p>This photo shows how the different colors and materials in the kitchen play together.  The backsplash and island countertop, the floor and island, and the cabinets and woodwork.  What’s not shown is how the kitchen fits into the larger context of the home – TreHus designers were very careful to weave themes from the existing home into the remodeled space – making sure that it fit the home’s historic character while meeting the functional demands of a modern kitchen.</p>
  • <p>The island and floor are both quartersawn oak, matching the buffet and floors in the rest of this grand old home. The rounded side of the island adds visual interest and imitates the buffet in the dining room.</p>
  • <p>Before this project, there was a sheet of plywood behind the door. TreHus designed and built this pass-through from the kitchen to seamlessly match the rich, ornate buffet original to this 100+ year old home.  The graining, detailing and stain of the new quartersawn oak cabinet and the detailing and coloring of the new leaded glass doors match the originals exactly.</p>
