This grand home on Lake Harriet was blessed with gracious rooms and details, but had tangled circulation, and lacked the spaces suited to a 21st century family. To solve this without a new addition, we relocated stairways, improving the flow and freeing up enough space to gain a mudroom, a generous kitchen, and room to move furniture into the attic. Creative strategies, including opening the floor beneath a dormer, increased the amount of daylight, and improved views without adding new window openings. The more modern floor plan is paired with details and materials consistent with the original home, gracefully blending the new with the old.
