MN Birth Center – Minneapolis

  • <p>This once grand home had become dilapidated through years of neglect and use as a triplex.  It was eventually abandoned, and by the time TreHus first entered the picture, all of the copper pipes and anything else of any potential value had been torn out by vandals.</p> <p>It is now a beautiful, safe, home-like place for women to give birth, with two birthing suites and an exam room on the first floor, and a waiting area for families on the second floor.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
  • <p>TreHus dismantled the stair system that allowed different tenants to go to different levels, and created a single entry.  The new entry is two stories high, spacious and light, with enameled paneling, and stained glass re-purposed from the original letting in daylight from the second level.</p>

  • <p>Stained glass windows from around the house were salvaged and reused to let light into the entry.  Three large pendants are suspended at different heights over the tile floor below.</p>
  • <p>The porch was restored.</p>
  • <p>This dining room on the second floor still had beautiful original woodwork, which we saved, repaired and refinished.  It now serves as a waiting area for families of the women who are giving birth.</p>

  • <p>Here is a look at one of the birthing suites.  There is a bed, a storage cabinet, a bathroom, and a birthing tub.</p>
  • <p>Here is one of the birthing suites from another angle.  Details like the paneled tub surround, ceiling molding and medallion fit with the style of the 1911 home.</p>

  • <p>The hallway where all of the work of the birth center takes place, with doors for the exam room and two suites.  The enameled wainscoting adds a light aesthetic to the space and is stylistically appropriate for the home.</p>
