Celebrating 42 Years

Dashiell Thomas, Carpenter

Dashiell first discovered TreHus through a friend’s recommendation and by frequently noticing TreHus signage while walking throughout the cities. Drawn to the company’s core values and quality craftsmanship, he knew it was a place he wanted to be a part of. Professionally, he’s known as a versatile craftsman or a jack-of-all-trades, having developed a wide range of skills through experience across various trades.

Growing up in South Minneapolis, Dashiell was surrounded by beautiful craftsman homes and architecturally significant buildings, though he didn’t fully appreciate them until later in life. His passion for working with his hands was nurtured by summers spent in his grandfather’s garage in northern Minnesota, where he learned the basics of carpentry and mechanics. This early foundation led him to pursue jobs in landscaping, greenhouse maintenance, and, eventually, building state-of-the-art greenhouses. He pursued a degree in architecture at North Dakota State University but soon realized his true passion lay in hands-on work. An apprenticeship with a local remodeler while in Technical School cemented his path in construction. Over the years, Dashiell has remodeled kitchens and bathrooms, restored century-old homes, and even built an accessory dwelling unit from the ground up, a project he’s particularly proud of.

What excites Dashiell most about his work is the opportunity to bring thoughtfully designed spaces to life. He takes great joy in seeing the time, effort, and care it takes to design a project to be lived in and then get to execute it to the point it becomes someone’s home. His passion for the small details stems from a deep understanding that the craftsmanship of today will benefit future generations. This appreciation extends to the items he encounters from past generations, knowing they were made with the same dedication and care.

When he’s not working, you can find Dashiell outdoors, road and mountain biking, skiing, backpacking, or canoeing, especially in the woods north of the Pine Line. His latest passion is transforming his yard into a native plant garden and food forest. He’s also begun learning to play instruments, eager to join in when his wife, neighbors, and friends make music together.
